Everyone occupying a seat in the auditorium needs a ticket. All tickets will be reserved seating. The seating capacity at Hemmens is fantastic and every seat has an excellent view of the stage. Since there will be two sets of tickets for the show, please be sure when purchasing tickets that they are for the correct performance day. Every seat at Hemmens is great!
If any student wants to watch the show during recital performances on Saturday or Sunday, they MUST have a ticket. It is the parent's responsibility to make sure your student is with their class in plenty of time so they do not miss their dance. Students must wear a cover-up over their costume or they will not be allowed in the auditorium during the actual performances. A recital t-shirt or bathrobe are acceptable cover-ups.
TICKETS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE!
PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING:
While we appreciate your enthusiasm, NO video or flash photography will be allowed in the auditorium at the recital: via cell phone, tablet, camera or camcorder. Not only is it very distracting to the dancers, the other people in the audience who have paid to see the show will not appreciate video cameras or phones blocking their view of their dancer. PLEASE pass this policy on to your recital guests.
Program Ads: We will again be offering our families the opportunity to purchase ads in our recital program! It is a way to recognize and congratulate your dancer for their accomplishments or to get your business ad in front of hundreds of new people. Go to www.recitalprogramads.com, click on the Dancers and Parents button, then select Dorothy’s Dancing Unlimited. Choose the ad size and design it right there! Due by May 15th.
Backstage/Dressing Room Information
Students should be with their group and ready for the recital ½ hour before show time. We cannot hold up the show for any one person.
The dressing rooms are located downstairs and will be clearly marked with the names of the recital dances for the Intro and Creative classes and age groups for older students. If you are in only one number and do not require a costume change, there will be a large room and students will find their group and sit together.
We ask that only one parent accompany their child to the dressing room and after finding their class, the parent will return to the auditorium, unless they are a volunteer. For the safety of our students, ALL PARENTS WHO ARE NOT VOLUNTEERS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE BACKSTAGE OR DRESSING ROOM AREA!!
Dancers should use the washroom at least five dances before their recital number to ensure they are ready to go when their number is called to the stage and to prevent any accidents with the young dancers.
Many parents have shown concern about the younger students remaining in the dressing room area during the entire show. You have a few options:
You could volunteer to watch the students in the dressing room area while they wait to perform.
If students stay in the dressing room area during the performance, you may want to bring something for them to do to keep them occupied. There will be so much excitement going on that the time will pass very quickly and students won’t have a chance to get bored.
You will be responsible for bringing the class up to the stage when it's time for them to perform and will get to watch your child from backstage.
You could purchase a ticket for your child and have them watch the show.
It will be your responsibility to be sure that they are in the dressing room area and in costume at least 7 numbers prior to their recital number.
Remember, no costumes are allowed in the auditorium so students should wear a cover-up over their costume.
The recital is one weekend out of the year and the students put all their effort and hard work into the show. It is really sad and unfair to find half of the audience has left near the end of the performance. If a student is in only one number, have them watch the show from the audience. This experience will delight the preschoolers and motivate the students. Our recital is unlike most recitals and you will find the performance quality extremely professional! So please plan in advance to stay for the entire show and have your child participate in the finale. I’m sure you will be glad you did!
TURN OFF ELECTRONIC DEVICES. Please instruct your family and friends to keep their cell phones, tablets, cameras, and video cameras put away on recital day. Our recitals are professionally recorded with a quality far superior to what you will get on a phone or video camera shooting between heads in the audience. Aside from the quality difference, recording the show (and putting your brightly-lit screen in the way of other spectators) is inconsiderate to the audience around you and is prohibited, and violators will be asked to leave. Please silence ALL cellular phones.
PLEASE REMAIN SEATED DURING DANCE PERFORMANCES. Please stay in your seat and be considerate of the other people in the auditorium. If you arrive late or must leave the auditorium during the recital, you must wait until the onstage dance is finished so you do not block parents' view of their children onstage. You can wait near the exit door for the dance number to conclude and then exit between numbers. Enthusiastic applause is encouraged; however, it is never appropriate to scream out a child’s name or yell in any way.
NO FOOD OR DRINK ALLOWED. Food and drink (including bottled water and other beverages with lids) are not allowed in the auditorium. We strictly enforce this rule.
A performance of this magnitude serves several purposes. It rewards the students for the many hours of discipline and training during the year and gives them a small taste of what “show biz” is all about. Many careers have begun with the excitement of recitals. This show is a big thrill for everyone and will give lasting memories. Thank you for working with us to create an enjoyable and memorable experience!
